Summary

When it comes to value per dollar, you can't go wrong with the Depstech Wireless Endoscope.

So you’re trying to buy your first endoscope. Understand that there are thousands of them in the market, but only a few of them are useful for your situation. That’s where the Depstech Wireless Endoscope steps in.

Before we get onto our review, we have a few things you should look for when getting your first endoscope.

Obtain An LED Light Source

LED is a common light source for flexible endoscopy operations. It is more available and affordable than other light sources (xenon, halogen, etc.). While Halogen and XENON will need the replacement of light bulbs, they might not be useful for the average DIYer.

For example, Halogen bulbs use obsolete and old technology while xenon light bulbs are very expensive. Always go for the LED light source with the minimum of 100W. In time, the light source will compensate for the loss of fibers within the scope, that's less than 100W, in time, the lighting won't be fully sufficient.

Scope Diameter

Make sure the scope diameter is between 2.8-3.4mm when getting a flexible endoscope. A diameter that’s more than 3.4 meters is less comfortable to the patients, to the point that they might refuse to start the procedure.

Excessive scope diameter lengths also limit the procedures a doctor can perform, such as repairing a deviated septum. On the other hand, if the diameter is below 2.8mm, they are not recommended either.

Small scope diameters are easy to break, delicate, and are more expensive. 2.8mm is sufficient enough for common pediatric use, so seek for an endoscope that has this diameter if possible.

Light Guide Connector

Always make sure that you buy the right light guide cable to fit the light source. The wrong adapter will reduce your illumination, damage the scope, and place you in danger of having a serious burn.

If you don’t have a light source yet, get the STORZ light source guide. The endoscope is a necessary diagnostic tool for otolaryngologists. It’s a very expensive tool when used daily. Therefore, it’s important that you buy an endoscope, which will provide comfort for both you and your patients.

Detachable Light Cables

Buying a laryngoscope with internal light guide cables limits you to use just a standalone light source.

Getting a portable endoscope provides the freedom you need when performing operations. For instance, you can use it as a portable light source, or connect it to a light source that has a detachable fiber cable.

Also, you need to consider that if there's damage to a light cable to an integral light source, the cost of repair can range from $500-$1000 dollars. That's why it's better to get a detachable light cable as they are cheaper to repair.

DEPSTECH Wireless Endoscope

  • 11.5 ft cable
  • 2MP Camera
  • Four adjustable resolutions
  • Built-in 6 adjustable LED
  • Wi-Fi App compatible for iPhone and Android Users

Overview

Starting with the tip, the Depstech Wireless Endoscope features a 2MP camera that's surrounded by a small ring of LED lights. The head of the camera is connected to its snake portion that's 11.5ft long until you reach the body of the unit.

The body has all the electronics to help make magic happen, and show its own WiFi network for mobile devices (Android or iOs) to connect to.

The endoscope's body features a micro-USB port that's used to charge the camera. On the side, there is an on/off switch and a scroll wheel that helps users control the intensity of a LED light around the camera. That's all there is to it, and it's as simple as it sounds.

You can start by downloading an app to your phone that can either be found under the name "WIFI View." Once the app is downloaded, you'll turn the camera on through the switch and wait for the Wi-Fi light to turn on. After you're connected, you can join the network from your tablet/phone without going to the app's settings.

Another feature worth mentioning is its premium camera chip. The chip produces clear video at speeds of 30fp. This places it at a direct advantage against its competitors, whose endoscopic cameras still show videos at 10fps.

The wireless distance works as long as the phone is nearby. There we no issues we’ve experienced when trying to make use of the device or connect to it. That’s a huge statement for itself.

We also like how the snake/camera is waterproof, just in case the device needs to be wet to help complete a task. While it can't withstand a full dive or anything, it can withstand 1 meter of depth for about 5 minutes. Anything past that is risky, but having the ability to do so is a plus.

However, there was a slight flaw that most users experience. If you're unable to get videos on your screen, there were some reviews stating that Android phones have difficulty using the Wi-Fi camera unless the cellular data connection is disabled.

If this happens to you, go to the shortcuts section on the device's notification screen and disable the data to see if that fixes anything. Fortunately, when tested against multiple Android phones, the error didn't occur as much.

When it comes to value per dollar, you can't go wrong with the Depstech Wireless Endoscope. It's currently sold at a price around $35.99. And with its multitude of features (Blue LED technology, Wi-Fi connectivity, Premium Camera Chip), its a no brainer why it outperforms the competition.
